It’s time to turn some attention to our trees.
We have contracted with Davey Resource Group to create an inventory of city trees within the right of way and parks within Hibbing city proper.
Workers will begin assessing trees on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Assessments consist of measuring the base, assessing the tree condition, identifying species, identifying any defects and identifying hazard trees/limbs. Work will start on the north end of Hibbing and head south.
Three crews will be in town walking the sidewalks and conducting the assessments. They will travel in logoed vehicles (Davey Resource Group) and wear yellow, high-visibility vests with ID Badges. Crews will stay in the public right of way and on city property and will not enter onto private property.
Assessing is anticipated to take about 10 weeks and the hope is to identify up to 25,000 trees. This effort was made possible through a MN DNR ReLeaf grant.
