[ARCHIVED] Apartment fire at 3505 9th Avenue West

Fire engine parked in front of a building

HIBBING - On the afternoon of Saturday, December 3rd, the Hibbing Fire Department was dispatched to Park Place Apartments for an automatic fire alarm. The incident was upgraded to a Structure Fire, dispatching mutual aid partners Virginia, Keewatin and Chisholm Fire Departments, however, canceled later on.

Upon arrival there was nothing showing from the outside. Neighbors reported there was smoke in the hallway of the 3rd floor coming from apartment #305. Crews were able to confirm the smoke and fire was coming from apartment #305 after Hibbing Police Dept arrested and removed one of the occupants from the apartment for an outstanding warrant. The crews found smoke and fire damage to a bed and pillow that was mostly extinguished prior to entering the bedroom.

The fire is thought to be caused by smoking and is under investigation by the Hibbing Fire Department. Hibbing Police department assisted in controlling the scene and removing the uncooperative occupant.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. We would like to express how important it is to take fire alarm activation seriously and evacuate a building when a fire alarm is sounding. This is for your life and safety!
