This year’s sanitary sewer lining project, sidewalk replacement project and the street paving program each received a green light from city leaders earlier this month.

Sanitary Sewer Lining: the 2025 Sanitary Sewer Lining Project was awarded to low-bidder Insituform in the amount of $1,363,210. This bid came in under the amount budgeted for the year.

The City has been lining its sanitary sewers to reduce inflow/infiltration and to reduce the amount of sanitary sewer failures and to extend the life of the treatment plant. Including this project, the City has rehabilitated 140,939 of sanitary sewer main since 2013.

Sidewalk Replacement: the 2025 City Sidewalk Project was awarded to Bougalis Construction in the amount of $79,956.

Five residential petitions were received for sidewalk rehabilitation. The City will also be replacing sidewalks along 24th Street and 9th Avenue East as part of the Safe Routes to School portion of the project.

The project breakdown is $63,088 for the city portion and $8,169 for the residential portion. The department budgeted $75,000 for the project.

Street Paving: the 2025 City of Hibbing Paving Project was awarded to Mesabi Bituminous in the amount of $1,282,691. The budget breakdown is as follows: 2025 Minnesota State Aid Maintenance Funds of $454,102, plus the 2025 City Budgeted Amount of $1,030,743 for a total 2025 City Paving Budget of $1,484,845.
