HIBBING — The public has an opportunity to learn about fire safety and learn about the Hibbing Fire Department and its capabilities.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, the department is hosting its fall open house with free food, fun, and fire prevention for the whole family.
“We originally coordinated this with Fire Prevention Week and have been doing this for more than 30 years,” Hibbing Fire Chief Erik Jankila said of the open house. “We moved it back to September for weather reasons. We ran into too many years of cold weather. Moving it up even a week or so has dramatically increased attendance.”
Jankila said the firehouse belongs to the public and invites the community to come see “their firehouse.”
The open house gives people an opportunity to see where there tax dollars go.
“We want to make sure they know what we are capable of doing, and what we do on a daily basis to keep their community safe,” Jankila said.
The weather forecast for this Saturday is favorable, and the HFD is looking forward to showcasing its capabilities with the public.
