We have recently upgraded our winter maintenance fleet with the addition of a new speed plow truck. This new equipment will replace one of the road graders currently used on rural plow routes and represents a significant step forward in efficiency.
Speed plow trucks are designed to clear snow and apply salt more quickly and consistently than traditional graders on long rural routes. This allows crews to cover more miles in less time while improving roadway conditions for residents, school transportation, emergency services, and daily commuters.
By modernizing our equipment, the City is able to reduce fuel consumption, improve response times during winter weather events, and better allocate staff and resources across the community. This investment supports safer travel and more reliable winter road maintenance throughout Hibbing, particularly in outlying areas.
Now comes the fun part — we want your help naming our new rig.
Residents are invited to submit name suggestions for the City’s new speed plow truck. Creative, winter-themed, and Hibbing-proud ideas are encouraged.

The submission form will be open through 11 p.m. Jan. 30 and the link will also be shared across City of Hibbing’s social media accounts.
Here are a few basic rules:
- Each person may only submit one name.
- Submissions are limited to no more than 30 characters (including letters and spaces).
- Let’s keep it clean, nothing vulgar please. Any submissions that include profanity or other inappropriate language will not be considered.
- Politically inspired names (including phrases, slogans or plays on politicians’ names) will not be considered. Naming city equipment is meant to be fun and lighthearted, so we’re going to keep this contest nonpartisan and nonpolitical.
After the submission form closes on Jan. 30, city staff will review all the submissions, select some of the best ideas, and invite the public to vote on a favorite in January. The names receives the most votes will then be added to the new rig.
