Hibbing Area Transit will continue to provide service with a modified service scheduled effective Thursday, June 27. The city council acted Wednesday to approve the request to alter the transit’s service design to the following:
- Regular stops will be made between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the 5 p.m. pickup bringing passengers to their final destination.
- Saturdays will be 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the 4:00 p.m. pickup bringing passengers to their final destinations.
- There will be no service on Sundays.
Hibbing Area Transit’s third-party operator has agreed to extend our operating contract until July 31. At that time, the operating contract will terminate. Revision of the service hours is being prompted by a shortage of drivers and dispatchers. Also, we are still experiencing a shortage of buses as well, so this will allow for a slight reprieve and an opportunity to get our current buses serviced.
Passes will be honored until July 31, and no new passes will be issued beyond July.
Stay tuned for additional updates, including a survey in which residents and riders will be able to give their input on the future of service delivery in Hibbing.
