[ARCHIVED] Feeding wildlife ordinance is in effect

Blight Map updated 2022

Our “feeding of pigeons” ordinance (sec. 10.05) was expanded to now include “non-domesticated migratory waterfowl” plus “wildlife animals” earlier this year.

Non-domesticated migratory waterfowl specifically refers to ducks and geese. Wildlife is defined as bears, deer, coyote and wolves.

According to the ordinance, feeding any of the animals mentioned above – plus pigeons – is prohibited within the urban service district of Hibbing. Violation of the ordinance is a misdemeanor and can result in a fine.

Amendment of the ordinance was approved by the city council in mid-September, posted in the newspaper on Oct. 12 and is currently in effect.

Questions can be directed to our Community Service Officers at 218-421-7155.
