[ARCHIVED] Hibbing PD responds to isolated shooting incident

Police Mission Statement

At approximately 5:21 a.m. Friday, June 27, Hibbing officers responded to a report of an incident involving a shooting within the City of Hibbing. A male, who was known to the victims, reportedly broke into an apartment near the 600 block of East 40th Street and began to physically assault the male and female occupants. The male occupant was physically assaulted first, then the female occupant was physically assaulted. The male occupant was able to retrieve a revolver and fired one shot at the assailant, which struck him and caused him to flee.

It was later determined the female occupant was the ex-girlfriend of the male who broke into the apartment. The occupants refused medical treatment at the scene.

The assailant was located and taken into custody by the Itasca County Sheriff’s Department. Following medical treatment, he will remain in custody.

This was an isolated incident and at no time was there a threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department also assisted.
