The council gave nods to several Hibbing residents ready and raring to lend their time and talents to helping oversee the Hibbing Public Library.
Seven were appointed to various terms on the Public Library Board during a meeting Wednesday evening. This action marks the first time a library board has existed since 2016.
Following a mayoral nomination, councilors unanimously voted in separate motions for the following appointments:
- Immediately – Dec. 31, 2028: Robert Corradi
- Immediately – Dec. 31, 2028: Dana Grozdanich
- Immediately – Dec. 31, 2027: Anastasia “Tess” Smart
- Immediately – Dec. 31, 2027: Tim Rasch
- Immediately – Dec. 31, 2027: Sam Nerby
- Immediately – Dec. 31, 2026: Sierra Napoli-Thein
- Immediately – Dec. 31, 2026: Patric Anderson
As a member of the board, each member will represent the library both to the people of Hibbing and to city officials.
As a board, they will use their collective best efforts to see that adequate funds are obtained for good library service; to promote the best possible use of all library resources in the area, to improve the library, and extend library service to those not previously served.
The council discussed the option of reducing the seven-member board to five members, which would have required an ordinance change, but ultimately stuck with seven.
Mayor Pete Hyduke thanked everyone who applied for a commission/board for their interest, willingness to step up to serve and commitment to our community.
