We are currently accepting applications for the upcoming vacancies listed below. Applications should be submitted by Friday, Dec. 5. Interviews will be conducted the week of December 8-12 with appointments to be made by the city council on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Applications are available online at https://hibbingmn.gov/195/Boards-Commissions-Authorities or in the City Council Office.

VACANCIES AS OF JANUARY 1, 2026:  

CHISHOLM-HIBBING AIRPORT AUTHORITY (CHAA):

  • The purpose of the Chisholm-Hibbing Airport Authority is to provide airport planning services to the Range Regional Airport.
  • The Chisholm-Hibbing Airport Authority consists of 6 members (3 from Hibbing and 3 from Chisholm), appointed for a 3-year term. Board members must be residents of the City of Hibbing or Chisholm.
  • Held at 5 p.m. on the 3rd Monday of the month (except for the months of January and February due to Federal holidays) in the Chisholm-Hibbing Airport Authority Conference Room at Range Regional Airport. 
  • VACANCY: 1 three-year term ending Dec. 31, 2028 
  • Chisholm - Hibbing Airport Authority | Hibbing, MN

GAMBLING COMMISSION:

  • Purpose of the Gambling Commission is to prepare and recommend changes in procedure and practice governing charitable gambling in the City, and to make recommendations with regard to possible changes in City Code provisions governing charitable gambling in the City
  • 3-member commission
  • Meets as needed
  • VACANCIES:
    • 3 one-year, two-year or three-year terms ending December 2026-2028
    • Representative of a charitable gambling organization/license-holder

 Gambling Commission | Hibbing, MN

HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION:

  • Purpose is to safeguard the heritage of the City by preserving sites and structures which reflect elements of the City’s cultural, social, economic, political, visual, or architectural history.
  • 7-member Commission
  • The Heritage Preservation Commission consists of seven voting members appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the City Council, as follows: one local architect, one Planning Commissioner, one Hibbing Historical Society member recommended by the Society Board, one staff member from Assessor’s Office, and three members-at-large who are residents of the City of Hibbing.
  • Meets as needed
  • VACANCIES:
    • A local architect
    • A current Planning Commission member 

Heritage Preservation Commission | Hibbing, MN

HIBBING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (HEDA):

  • HEDA offers development assistance for new and expansion-minded businesses interested in locating in Hibbing. Vision is to expand Hibbing’s area economic base while maintaining high quality of life.
  • A 7-member Board (4 from public sector + 3 council members)
  • Must be resident of the City of Hibbing
  • Appointments for at-large members is 6 years, per state statue
  • Meetings and workshops are typically held the second Monday of the month at 5 p.m. in the council chamber, with exceptions due to holidays or scheduling conflicts 
  • VACANCY: 1 six-year term beginning April 1, 2026, and ending Dec. 31, 2031

Hibbing Economic Development Authority (HEDA) | Hibbing, MN

HOUSING AND REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (HRA):

  • The board of the Housing & Redevelopment Authority of Hibbing is responsible for setting policy and direction, overseeing the agency’s operations and finances, and ensuring the mission of providing safe, affordable housing and revitalizing our community is fulfilled.
  • Composed of five citizens, including one resident, from the community.
  • Meetings held on the last Wednesday of each month
  • VACANCY: 1 five-year term ending Dec. 31, 2030 

Housing & Redevelopment Authority | Hibbing, MN

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

  • Purpose is to secure for all citizens freedom from discrimination because of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, disability, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation, and age.
  • 6-member Commission
  • Must be a resident of the City of Hibbing
  • VACANCIES: 2 three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2028

Human Rights Commission | Hibbing, MN

PLANNING COMMISSION

  • Purpose of the Commission is to oversee the City Land Use Ordinance and provide land use recommendations to the City Council.
  • Supported and advised by a full-time City Staff.
  • 5- member Commission
  • Meets twice monthly (1st and 3rd Monday)
  • VACANCY: 1 three- or four-year term ending December 31, 2028 or 2029

Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustments & Appeals | Hibbing, MN

HIBBING PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (PUC):

  • Purpose of the Public Utilities Commission is to develop policy and oversee management of the City of Hibbing Public Utility System.  
  • 5-member Commission
  • Meetings held at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at city hall.
  • VACANCY: 1 three-year term beginning April 1, 2026, and ending March 31, 2028
