Recycling

The Hibbing Green Center for recycling is located at the old North Waste water Treatment Plant. The address is 1570 E Howard Street.

All recycling, compost, and corrugated cardboard must be brought to the recycling center.

Recycling Center

  • The Recycling Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Residents can pick up 14 or 16 gallon totes from the Recycling Center to transport their recyclable to the recycling center. Each household can pick up one bin of each size for no charge.
  • The city compost/wood chip and corrugated cardboard recycling is also located at this facility.
  • St Louis County will continue to have recycling drop bins located at the South Waste Treatment Plant on Townline Road and the Kelly Lake Community Center.

What can be Recycled & How

Recycling Basics

  • Clean and separate your recyclable. Remove all lids, caps and pumps. Remove paper labels if possible.
  • Recycling must be loose - no bags, no boxes, no strings or ties.

The Recycling Center will only be accepting materials that can be recycled in St. Louis County. Waste products will be given back to the individuals that brought them.

To avoid this, please follow these guidelines:

Paper Products

Please recycle "Fibers" residential mixed paper such as: Newspaper, mail, magazines and boxboard.

  • Newspapers, printer, and copier paper
  • Magazines up to 1/2" thick
  • Junk Mail (minus plastic cards and envelope windows)
  • Paperboard (cereal or pop boxes) and pressed paper
  • No pizza boxes, paper plates, paper towels, egg cartons, or napkins

Corrugated Cardboard

  • Corrugated cardboard must be broken down (flattened) and cut to manageable sizes (24" squares maximum).

Glass

  • Brown, Green, and Clear Glass
  • Bottles and Jars only
  • Rinse out and remove caps, metal rings, etc.
  • No need to remove labels
  • No window (plate) glass, light bulbs, mirrors, dishes, or glassware

Plastic

  • Any containers labeled Number 1 or Number 2
  • Rinse out and remove caps
  • No need to remove labels
  • No Number 2 plastic bags. Please bring to a retail location that recycles plastic bags.
  • No toys, product packaging, Number 3-7 plastics, or motor oil containers

Metal

  • All beverage, vegetable, soup, etc...cans
  • Rinse out and remove caps, metal rings, etc
  • All aluminum (pop) bi-metal cans
  • No paint cans
